Ingredients for healthy hair

We all have heard stories of wacky hair treatments involving things like using beer for shampoo or even cracking a few eggs on top of the noggin to get that restoring shine back. Natural hair care treatment abound from all four corners of the earth and it seems that just about everything that can be used has been used to treat hair. While some of these ideas seem wacky indeed, many of these natural hair care  recipes could work, resulting in a fuller, shinier, and all around healthier head of hair.

Stimulate the scalp

I am not sure about that odd device that Jack’s character uses in Anger Management, but increasing the blood flow to the scalp is one way to to get better hair. Certain herbs can be used for this including Ginkgo,  Muira Puma, rosemary, chamomile, and lavender.  Alma is another good hair stimulant as are shitaki mushrooms. Another good way to stimulate blood flow to the scalp is to exercise daily and to avoid certain bad habits such as smoking and drinking that decrease the amount of blood flowing to your head.

There is also a scalp massaging exercise out there that many people haved claimed to have benefitted from. It involves kneading your scalp everyday, as if it was a piece of dough in  order to improve blood circulation to the top of the head, where most people  lose their  hair.

Fortify the follicles

Certain hair care ingredients are needed to  help keep your hair strong and healthy. Silica, or horsetail root, is a great supplement that has been used for years to promote super strong hair.  Biotin is also an essential B Vitamin that is needed for strong and healthy hair.  Vitamin B12 and magnesium are also good follicle fortifiers that can be taken as a supplement and used to promote healthy and strong hair.  One of the best sources to get all of the essential vitamins, minerals, and herbs needed for healthy hair is the supplement that comes with the provillus treament.

Clean and shiny

Most women already know the secrets to super clean and shiny hair, well men just assume that any old shampoo will work.  Vitamin E is an essential vitamin that helps keep your hair looking shiny and healthy. You can take it as a supplement, or eat foods such as brown rice or leafy green veggies in order to get enough of it.

Also, egg yolks are actually a good way to give your hair some shine and apple cider vinegar is a good natural way to get your hair squeaky clean.  And, believe it or not the protien found in a can of flat beers can help your hair and make thinning hair appear fuller, although, it is important to wash the beer out thouroughly lest you smell like a bum.

Hair loss myths debunked

Our stone age ancestors probably sat around in thier cave dwellings and discussed ways to deal with baldness. Like us, they probably came up to some crazy theories as to what caused or prevented their matted hair from thinning out. they most likely even had some crazy cures that the local witch doctor had come up with that was meant to prevent hair loss. Who knows, perhaps some of these cures worked and are just now being rediscovered by modern science today. Perhaps a drool of the sabertooth really did prevent premature balding back in the days when the white rain fell.

It is not like we have gotten any better in this modern age of ours. Sure, our science and knowledge has allowed us to learn many things about the causes of hair loss, but many wold rumors still persist. These hair loss myths pervade our culture and have even taken up a new life upon the Internet, building up an aura of plausibility. Here are a few of my favorite hair loss  myths that I have come across…

Hats make you go bald

Recently, my brother confided in me that he quit wearing baseball caps because his wife told him that it was making him lose his hair faster. Hats, however, do not really cause baldness. Hair loss actually is probably more responsible for frequent hat wearing than vice versa.  I have a feeling that my sister in law probably told my brother that so that he would quiteing wearing that dirty cap of his everywhere.

You only get it from your mothers side

This is a myth that I believed for years till a smart aleck cousin of mine who knows a thing or two about genetics and balding finally debunked for me. Mister smarty pants researcher informed me that while you can inherit the gene from your mother’s father, you can also get the gene from daddy too.  He pointed to his own thinning hair that his dad had passed down to him as proof.

Too much shampoo

washing your hair all the time will not make your hair fall out, unless you accidently grab you girlfiends bottle of nair thinking that it says “hair”. That hair left on the bottom of the tub is caused from reuglar shedding not related to any hair care products.

There is no cure for hair loss

Well there is apparently one true cure for men that will immediately stop hair loss. This, hovere involves a knife and a beloved body part.

Aside from castration, there are now several other options for hair loss. Minoxidil treatments have been scientifically proven to work proven many men and women.  Finasteride is also said to work and hair transplants have been getting better and better.  However, if you want to go “old school”, who am i to stop you.

Combing over

John McCain, Al Gore, Rudy  Guiliani in the nineties, Donald Trump.

All these rich, famous and powerful men are known to sport the horrendous thing known as a “comb over”.  You would think that being rich and powerful, that they would be able to get state of the art hair transplants, or an imported toupee, or at least try some sort of hair growth serum. Perhaps it is their pride getting in the way, or maybe they have combed themselves into a corner and now cannot find a way out of the situation without admitting that they know that they are losing their hair.

The Donald

Mr. Trump is perhaps rocks the  most famous ( or infamous) combover in the free world. I think that he is the prime example of someone who  is now trapped by a thing that he is now famous for. He must know that everyone knows that the mess on top of his head is out of control, but he seems unable to do anything about it. Donald is known for his wacky hairdo and in unable to change it because he does not want to mess with the public image, good or bad, that he has cultivated over the years. What is Donald Trump without his windblown combover? Just another billionaire businessman who likes to marry models.

Rudy and John

Rudy Giuliani is perhaps one of the few celebrity politicians who was brave enough to do away with the dastardly do that he carried with him for so many years. Remember what he looked like in the nineties, with that string of hair wrapped over his bald spot?   Now he looks much better, much less anemic. A politician with a comb over looks like he is trying to hide something, but is not doing a very good job at it. John McCain might be excused since he is old, and most men his age are lucky to have hair at all. Still, he has a good looking young wife, so the hair plastered over the top of his cranium makes him seem a little but desperate. Perhaps things would have turned out a little differently this past Super Tuesday had he  went with a different style (okay, that’s a bit of a stretch)

Why the comb over?

I think that we men who end up combing it over fall into a trap of denial and resolution. When our hair starts to leave us in our twenties and thirties, a sympathetic barber or hairstylist gives us a nicely layered haircut that adequately covers up our thinning spots. Since it looks good at the time we decide to keep it and then keep coming back to the same shop, hoping to get the same results as our hairline recedes further and further. The person you are paying to cut your hair is not about to tell you that the style the have been giving you for the past decade is no longer working. You and your combover have become their meal ticket. Instead, they just make sure you do not look to long at the growing blank spot on the top of your head when they give you the mirror to check out their handiwork.  Most of your loved ones will probably not say anything either since they have gotten used to your hairstyle and love you in spite of how ridiculous it looks.  Since no one says anything about it, we allow ourselves to walk around in denial of the obvious.

combing to terms

It takes a lot of guts to come to terms with a combover and to finally take steps to do something about it. If going Giuliani is not your cup of tea there are other options out there. Hair transplants have gotten better over the years, and so have wigs and hair nets. Also the  topical solutions that they sell to regrow hair have also gotten better thanks to the discovery of the miraculous minoxidil. Whether you comb it out of existence, or find another way to hide your bare scalp, be brave, be strong and do something about it already!

How to prevent thinning hair

Some  guys can get away with it…

Why is it that guys with thinning hair just end up looking so much worse than men who are just plain bald. Look at that guy from on of my favorite TV shows, “The Shield”. He looks great bald, like a real bad dude that can handle his business, yet, if he had just some thinning hair on top of his head, he would probably not look as cool. When it comes to hair, there is not an in between phase that really works: you can either a good head of hair or go chrome dome.

And, if you do not think you can rock the bald man style as well as Micheal Chiklis, or that Joe the plumber guy, you might want to consider taking steps in getting yourself a thicker head of hair.

First step: Prevention

The first step in stopping thinning hair is to stop it before it happens. While losing your hair might be genetic, your diet and various habits might be causing you to lose your hair at a earlier age.  Take my cousin for a prime example of this. He started out with already pretty thin hair, and it got worse as he became a teenager.  His steady diet of junk food and pack a day smoking habit certainly was not helping him keep is hair until at least his mid twenties. He started using a hair thickening shampoo, but it only helped a little bit. What he really needed to do was stop the smoking and start eating better. His bad habits were starving his follicles, keeping the nutrients that that they needed from actually reaching them. According to our bodies, our hair comes in pretty low on the the priority scale and if we are not getting enough vitamins and minerals , it is the first thing to suffer.  Now my cousin wears “Bears” cap wherever he goes to the point that people think he is a super hard core football fan. Scary thing is, the guy doesn’t even like football that much.

Its never too late

Using a over the counter thickening shampoo, such as Vive for men, is a first good step by my cousin, but what he really needs to do is to take a look at some options that might help him regrow some healthy hair not just thicken up the ones he has left. They way his head is now, it would probably be worth it to give a scalp treatment that contains Minoxidil a try. Minoxidil has been scientifically proven to help people regrow lost hair and topical solutions that contain it are readily available at any store where you might find hair care products or even online. The more popular name brands that contain Minoxidil are Rogaine, Regaine and of course Provillus.

Provillus, a treatment exclusively found online, might be the best answer for my cousin’s thinning hair problem because of its unique  approach to hairloss. While Provillus does supply a topical solution that contains Minoxidil, it also provides a daily supplment that is loaded with various nutrients and and minerals that will help feed the hair follicles from the inside. While kicking his junk food and cigarette habit will be a first big step, this daily tablet which contains things like biotin and saw palmetto, will help ensure that his hair is getting the what it need to live up to its  potential.

Lets face it, not everyone can rock the bald look and a nice head of hair is important for our self image, especially when we are young and single.  If you have thinning hair, it is important that you take step immediately to help curb it.  changing your diet and controlling your stress levels will help as will using a supplement like the one provided with provillus.

Natural cures for hair loss

Dealing with hair loss can be tough,  but there are things that you can do to help fight it.  The first thing you need to understand, is why are you losing your hair. Hair loss can be caused a plethora of things including diet, stress, medications, aging, but the majority of the male population’s hair loss is hereditary. Since mankind lost their tails and started walking upright, they have been dealing with pattern baldness. Perhaps the genes that caused too much  androgen in man’s system which leads to the formation  hair follicle strangling DHT, were also beneficial in evolutionary sense. I mean, they probably had to be since over half of the population carries the gene.  Still any evolutionary benefits that male pattern baldness has contributed has been offset with our current technological progress and just like our gall bladders, it is not something that really need any more.

Nature Vs. Science

This past decade, the balding world has been buzzing with the latest technological advancements that science has come up with to deal with hair loss. Drugs like minoxidil and finesterade were discovered and were soon being marketed as miracle cures for baldness. Late night infomercials, started advertising revolutionary hair transplant techniques that involved taking the healthy hair from the back of your head and putting it back on top. For enough money, you could buy yourself confidence.

While science has come a long way in helping men and women fight hair loss with products like Rogaine and Provillus, sometimes it is better to look backwards rather than forwards. Home remedies for hair loss have been around since the dawn of civilization, and it would be fool hardy to  dismiss some of these  cures just because they were not cooked up on a lab somewhere. For instance  Saw palmetto and nettle root  have been used for medicinal purposes since the time of the Mayans, and research has found that both have DHT inhibiting capabilities when massaged on the scalp.   Amla, or Indian Gooseberry, has been used for centuries as a hair treatment and is thought to help strengthening existing hair. The gel of the Aloe Vera plant is also thought to be a good remedy to combat hair loss as are the oils traditionally used in aromatherapy.

Prevention is the best cure

While hair loss due to heredity can have an inevitable feel to it, it can be staved off if you take action and do things to maintain a healthy head of hair. Diet is key in maintaining healthy hair. The modern diet, rich in greasy, fatty, fortified foods is not helping your scalp get all the nutrients it needs in order to maintain healthy hair growth. It is important to get all of your essential vitamins and minerals, especially your B-vitamins and Calcium if you do not want to experience premature hair loss.  Taking good care of the hair that you have is also important.  protect hour head in hash environments and try not to use harsh shampoos or chemical treatments. Also, long hair tied back in a tight ponytail will do a lot of damage to your hair.

A balance

In this new post modern world of ours, I think a person can maintian a balance between science and nature. The provillus treatment for hair loss is, in my opinion, a great example of this. While provillus does not try to ignore scientific edvancement and includes the modern miracle drug, minoxidil, in their treatment, they also are not afraid to look back to nature and  include a supplement that contains essential vitamins and minerals (biotin, magnesium) that are important for mainting healthy hair, as well as several different herbal extracts (saw palmetto, nettle) that have been used for centuries to treat hair and hair loss.
